You get away from your air conditioner, and you poof! Your hair is blown up into a curly coat despite having spent the last few hours blow-drying and ironing! It’s a familiar feeling. For most women who don’t have naturally smooth and beautiful locks, frizziness can be an everyday thing. With more innovation in the beauty and hair industry, treatments such as Keratin treatment Keratin treatments are becoming an element of many women’s hair-care routines and aiding in tackling this issue. We contacted Pranav Chetal, the Managing Director and Head of Hair of Looks Salon, to give us the basics on Keratin treatment: What is a Keratin Treatment?
Keratin is a protein present naturally in your hair and forms an essential component of the hair’s composition. Keratin treatments are a treatment for hair proteins that provides body and shine to your hair and reduce the frizziness of your hair, making it easier to manage. It injects Keratin protein into your hair cuticles and the porous areas that make up your hair, giving it more shine and less prone to frizzies.
What’s the procedure?
The process starts with a detailed discussion between you and your stylist about the entire background of your hair and what you expect of the outcome. The first step is a wash that helps remove the residue in your hair. It could even cause slight lightening of your hair’s color, so be sure to talk to your stylist about this. The next step is drying your hair and applying the protein treatment along all hair lengths. After letting the treatment sit for around twenty minutes, the hair will be dried by blow drying and then ironed to ensure the treatment has been sealed. After 36-72 hours, you must return to the hair salon for a second wash. This is when your hair will be ironed and washed using a sulfate-free shampoo, conditioner and. How is it different from Smoothening/Rebonding?
As an ingredient in protein treatments, Keratin treatment does not chemically alter the hair’s structure. It’s a way to make it more shiny and manageable. It can last about 4-6 months, depending on the hair’s texture and the treatment you choose to do at home. Smoothening or rebonding can alter the chemical composition of your hair to make it appear pin-straight. The outcome also differs depending on the treatment, as the keratin treatment will give you a more natural look, while smoothening will create an unnaturally straight appearance.
What will it cost you?
The cost of treatment will vary based on the texture, length, and amount of hair. Prices will also differ according to the product type used in the treatment. The estimated price is about INR 7,700 and up. It could be less than the amount for hair with a shorter length.
How do you take care of the aftermath of treatment?
After receiving the treatment, it is recommended to maintain dry hair and not wash it until you head into the salon to wash your hair for the first time. After your first wash, you’re advised to use sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners. These can help prolong the length of your Keratin treatment and help make your hair healthier. Going for a deep conditioning hair treatment every month is also suggested to keep your hair well-groomed and smooth!
Do we need to be able to get it?
Before you undergo the treatment, it is recommended that you go through a detailed consultation with your stylist. You should be able to understand the procedure and the outcomes. It is also helpful when you can explain to your stylist the style you want and the reasons you’d like to undergo the treatment. The treatment is generally advised for both men and women who have hair that is frizzy and unruly. If you dry-air or iron your hair frequently for work or outings, it is advised since it will stop using excessive heat on your hair. This is not a good option for women who have naturally curly hair. The treatment is not recommended for women who are pregnant.
