How to Pressure Wash Your Driveway

With a pressure cleaner, you can remove years of wear from your driveway with just a few easy steps.

Tool and Material:

  • Broom
  • stiff brush
  • Pressure washer
  • Pressure washer detergent
  • Spray bottle degreaser
  • Safety manual
  • Safety gloves
  • Plastic sheeting
  • Painter’s Tape
  • 50-ft. garden hose
  • Paint tray
  • Waterproof sealer
  • extender pole
  • roller cover
  • roller handle

1. Sweep the Surface.

Brooms are great for removing dirt and debris from surfaces.

2. Protect Exterior Walls and Doors.

Use painter’s adhesive and plastic sheeting to cover nearby doors and exterior walls. Protect doors and walls against loose debris, paint or stains that may be accidentally removed by the pressure washer.

3. Read Safety Manual.

Read the instructions for your pressure washer carefully. Each pressure washer is unique and may need special assembly, preparation or attachments.

4. Degrease the Surface.

Spray concrete with degreaser spray, while keeping 6 inches away from the surface. Use a stiff brush to scrub the degreaser in with a pressure washer attachment or a stiff bristle brush.

5. Attach Spray Tip for Detergent.

Snap the tip of the spray gun onto the head.

6. Attach Hoses.

Connect pressure washer wand and pressure-washer supplied hose. Connect a garden hose of 50 feet to the pressure-washer’s water supply. Then turn the water on.

7. Prepare Pressure Washer for Detergent.

For tasks like Driveway Cleaning in Gold Coast, the detergent siphon tube is usually included with pressure washers and can be attached directly to the detergent container. The tube will instantly bring detergent to the spray wand once the pressure washer has been started.

8. Spray Detergent.

Apply the detergent while holding the spray handle. Keep a constant distance between 8 and 18 inches away from the concrete. Move back and forth with a controlled, smooth motion, overlapping strokes by 6 to 8 inch. Let the detergent spray sit on the surface of the carpet for five minutes.

9. Pressure-Wash Concrete.

For tougher stains, such as paint, hold the tip 3 to 4 inches from the concrete surface and move with slower, nearly still strokes to ensure removal. Hold the tip at 3 to 4 inches away from the concrete surface and use slower strokes.

10. Seal Concrete.

Add the roller cover and extender pole to the paint pan. Pour the waterproof sealer in. Then, start in the center of the concrete and roll the waterproof sealer to the edges. Parking on the surface should be allowed 24 hours.
